Understanding China public holidays

China’s annual leave arrangement is set by the State Council, often with “make-up workdays” on certain Saturdays or Sundays in exchange for a longer contiguous break around Spring Festival or National Day. A third-party public holiday list will usually list the public holiday *days*; it will not, by itself, show every 调休 (shift) and weekend make-up in a colour-coded year graphic.
Use this AnyCalendar list to see which civil dates the API treats as public holidays in Nager Public Holidays (date.nager.at) for the selected country code for CN in the year you chose. If you need a wall planner that says “this Saturday is a workday because of 调休,” you must add the full State Council calendar for that year on top, from an official or reputable Chinese source, not a foreign summary only.
Cross-border teams should remember that the mainland, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, and Taiwan can differ completely on the same calendar day; this code is the mainland (CN) feed only. Lunar New Year (Spring Festival) and Mid-Autumn timing follow the Chinese lunar calendar mapped to Gregorian dates for that year—do not reuse last year’s civil dates.
Schools, universities, and many factories publish their own break windows that can start earlier or end later than the national holiday names. Retail and delivery during 双十一 or other commerce peaks are unrelated to public-holiday law. For payroll overtime and make-up-day pay questions, rely on your employer’s published work calendar and applicable labour rules—not a summary website alone.

Why does my employer’s work calendar not match a row here one-to-one?
Work calendars often encode make-up workdays, half-days, and firm-specific shutdowns. A generic public holiday list cannot capture those policy layers. This page is a baseline date index, not an HR system.
Does this list include Hong Kong or Macau holidays?
No. The CN country code here is the mainland feed. Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR publish separate public-holiday schedules. Open those jurisdictions’ own lists when your team or travel spans the border.
Can I plan multi-year Spring Festival travel from one year’s table?
Only as a rough sense of season. Exact civil dates and 调休 arrangements are set year by year. Open each year in AnyCalendar and pair it with that year’s State Council notice before booking non-refundable travel.
