Understanding Germany public holidays
DE list from the Nager Public Holidays API, with a country note on regional and legal limits—read before you rely on a single row.
The DE country code in Nager Public Holidays (date.nager.at) for the selected country code is a single list for the Federal Republic, but German public holiday practice is Länder-driven (federal state level). National unity days and Christmas exist everywhere; Christian holidays such as Epiphany, Corpus Christi, or Reformation Day apply only in some states, and a feed row may or may not match your state without an extra check.
Use this table to see which weekdays look sparse in a year and to compare against your employer’s PDF. In German labour law, “Feiertag” effects on your payslip depend on your collective agreement (Tarifvertrag) and the state, not a generic list online.
Bridge days (taking a Friday or Monday PTO to extend a public holiday) are a personal planning tool; they are not a legal right from this page. If you cross borders for work, compare DE with AT or FR lists on the same site for the same year.
Common questions (DE)
Is this a complete set for my Bundesland?
Possibly not. A merged DE feed is helpful but can omit state-only days or over-include names that are not in your state. The ministry or city portal for your Land publishes the final list.
Why is Reformation Day on the list in some years for some locations only?
It is a public holiday in several eastern states; other states do not use it. That is a classic case where a country-level API row needs a state filter. Confirm locally before booking leave you cannot reverse.
