Pay-cycle reference
Weekly and biweekly payrolls repeat from a known anchor payday. Twice-monthly and monthly payrolls instead follow dates within each calendar month. That difference determines both the yearly count and whether an extra-paycheck year is possible.
| Frequency | Rule | Usual yearly count | What can vary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weekly | Every 7 days from an anchor | 52 | Some years contain 53 occurrences |
| Biweekly | Every 14 days from an anchor | 26 | Some years contain 27 occurrences |
| Twice monthly | Two selected dates per month | 24 | Short months and weekend adjustments |
| Monthly | One selected date per month | 12 | Short months and weekend adjustments |
A calendar year is longer than 26 fourteen-day intervals. Depending on the anchor date and year boundaries, the remaining days occasionally fit a 27th payday.
You can keep the scheduled date or move it to the previous or next weekday. These adjustments do not include bank holidays or employer-specific payroll rules.
Biweekly schedules repeat every 14 days and usually produce 26 paydays. Twice-monthly schedules use two set dates and always produce 24.
This calculator adjusts weekends only. Employer rules and bank holidays can move an actual deposit date differently.
