The United Kingdom is not one uniform calendar. England and Wales share many of the same bank holidays, Scotland can differ (for example, some New Year and summer dates), and Northern Ireland has additional or differently dated days. It should match the broad picture for a given year, but it is not a certified copy of a .gov document. For binding questions, use the official site for England and Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland, depending on your location.
Why might Scotland or Northern Ireland look different in real life?
Devolved and regional calendars add or change days (for example, extra January days or different summer bank holidays). The GB feed in one API is a single combined result: some rows can represent national-level dates that are not a day off in every part of the UK, or the reverse. Always read the holiday name in the first column together with a regional calendar if you are not in England or Wales.
Do shops and trains always follow this table?
No. Sunday trading rules, local transport, and “service as usual” retail vary by day and by nation. A bank-holiday Monday in England does not always mean a transport shutdown, and some retailers open for limited hours. Use operator websites for the exact year.
